So, my Lily Bean is now 2 years old and I am definitely one of those Mums who go on and on about how fast it goes because it really does go so, so fast! I’ve said it so many times to Ben and he just jokes that Lily’s so big now because of photosynthesis. You know, because she’s a flower….

Anyway, I thought I’d do a little post to document the cake I made her which pretty much finished me off and nearly sent me into an early grave. Okay, I’m exaggerating but it was a ball ache and a half making it!

Firstly, I decided it would be a good idea to do a cake with three different flavours when I only have one cake tin the size I wanted. I then decided it would look nice with some gold leaf so I ordered some online and it never came which naturally led to panic shopping a couple of days before.

The cake itself is layered Vanilla Sponge and Red Velvet with a Chocolate Fudge Brownie base.

Sounds amazing right?! I don’t want to blow my own trumpet, but it totally was. The brownie kind of sucked a bit because I timed it slightly wrong and it was a bit too dry for my liking but after 2.5 hours of cooking various layers I was slightly delirious from the sugary fumes and utter exhaustion. At least it turned out better than last years wonky unicorn cake haha!

I always get my girls a bunch of flowers for their birthday, I don’t know if that’s a thing but I love having flowers around the house and birthdays give me the opportunity to spend a little more on an extra lovely bouquet. These flowers are from M&S and are absolutly beautiful, I found some gorgeous lilies and peach coloured roses in Morrsions which I wanted originally but they were so battered already and I didn’t want to pay £12 for a bunch of flowers that wouldn’t last, they were so beautiful though!

I also decorated the envelope only for the card we bought not to fit.

Lily loved everything and spent the day eating cake and opening presents from her Grandma, Auntie, Great Grandma and Grandad who popped in to see her. I think 90% of our food intake was cake but no one complained so my cake must have been good.

I am now a Mum of a 7 year old and a 2 year old! I feel ancient!
