Here I am again, monthly favourites time and about to say something along the lines of “I can’t believe how fast this month has gone by!” for God knows how many months running now. How is it nearly May? More importantly, how is it nearly Eloise’s 8th birthday? How the fuck did that happen? How do I have a nearly 8 year old?! I feel so old, like actually ancient. I still get get asked for my ID though so I guess I don’t look as old as I feel so I guess there’s that at least. How elderly does it make me sound though when I say I’ve got an 8 year old, 8 seems so grown up. I remember when I was 8, I still remember CITV’s competition line number and love Digimon and Sabrina the Teenage Witch just as much. I’m still technically a young Mum, I had Eloise when I was a teenager and I’m not even 30 yet but I feel old as balls.
Age related moaning aside, I’ve been toying with the idea of doing my monthly favourites as a video as well as/instead of a blog post like I used to do back in the day. I have found myself watching more YouTube videos again this month and it got me thinking about which would be a better route to go down. I’m not sure if any of my old monthly favourites are still public because I went through them all after I relaunched and put all of the cringe as fuck ones private because quite frankly, they were embarrassing. I think everyone thinks that about their old videos though so maybe I should just put them all public again and YOLO it because there are a good 50 videos I have hidden….Someone tell me what to do.
April 2018 Favourites…
Breathe Magazine – I saw Louise Pentland talk about this magazine on her insta stories and fell in love with the idea of a magazine that wasn’t full of unreachable “ideals” and boring gossip. Breathe is a wellbeing magazine full of lovely mindfulness, a ball of happiness in magazine form, if you will. It has 5 sections – wellbeing, living, mindfulness, creativity and escape. Everything I bloody need. No quiz to find out which Kardashian you are or how someones aunties friends sisters husband fucked a dog. Just lovely calmness. I am in love with this whole concept. They do a teen version too which I will definitely be buying for Eloise when she’s older.
April Cath Kidston Birchbox – Ok this one is in here mostly because it’s a Cath Kidston collab, need I say more? I love love love LOVE Cath Kidston and this box is the best. The highlighter that came in this is my new fave too! I saw that CK are collaborating with Heinz too and have their gorgeous prints on special tins of soup and I have never wanted soup more in my life. Their new Alice in Wonderland prints are bloody beaut too!
Orla Kiely Sycamore Seed Cosmetics Bag – I am freaking in love with this too! How gorgeous is this print!? I love Orla Kiely, we have just bought some of the stem print curtains for our living room which look so nice! This little bag is perfect for putting the days make up in and just popping in my hand bag. It fits perfectly in my Zara City Bag!
Boots Soltan Once Sun Cream – I bought this the other week ready for when the sun made it’s appearance because we only had last years left and sun cream goes out of date…doesn’t it? Anyway, I had heard great things about the Soltan range and after a mini panic about factor 30 not being high enough for Lily I discovered the 5 star UVA rating gives it one of the highest levels of sun protection. This one has is a spray bottle so it makes even application much easier and it also smells amazing! The girls wore this over the mini heatwave this month and neither of them got sunburn even though they were outside literally all day, everyday.
Nuxe Reve De Miel – This has been my absolute favourite lip balm for years now, I recently re purchased it and I am in love all over again. It’s like no balm I’ve come across, it’s quite thick and has a very matte finish to it and sort of melts onto the lips. It is my holy grail lip balm for sure and nothing has topped it in the last 6 years! It’s a miracle worker and I can always rely on to get my lips back in check. It also smells like a mixture of chocolate orange and carrot cake so that just makes me love it even more.
L’oreal Fine Flowers Make Up Wipes – Any wipe that isn’t an arse wipe is a step up right? I love the scent of these, it’s a very delicate floral scent which is so lovely. They are bloody good wipes too, they get rid of waterproof mascara like a dream which can be hard to come across when it comes to your bog standard make up wipe so that’s nice. I like the pink packaging too, obvs.
Umberto Giannini 60 Second Smooth – I bought this and a couple of other bits in the 3 for 2 at Boots after seeing Gemma talk about this brand and I wasn’t disappointed! Firstly, can we just appreciate the bloody gorgeous packaging? Whether or not I buy a product depends at least 60% on the packaging, if it’s pretty I will probably buy it. I bought the Shower in a Bottle too and damn, they slay the packaging right then and there with that beauty. Anyway, you pop this beauty into your ends for 60 seconds before you shampoo (go figure) and it leaves your hair super sleek and healthy with a monster shine! I actually bought this for Eloise mainly, her hair is so long she can sit on it and she is adamant she doesn’t want it cut but my GOD is it hard to manage. Because of the length we need to make sure it’s well conditioned or brushing it is next to impossible and I was so impressed with how much easier it is to manage after applying this!
Barry M Nail Polish in Bespoke – Quite possibly the best vintage, dusky pink I have ever seen. I have been wearing it non stop since I got it and I am in loooove! My usual go to nail polish brand is Essie but I do love Barry M nail polish a lot, they’re a few quid a bottle and pretty darn good quality for the price too! This is going to be one of my all time favourites I think!
Game of Thrones – Ben told me to watch this ages ago but I’m always about 94 years late on every bandwagon ever so it’s taken me until now to even attempt to watch it. I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to watch, I will say it’s quite full the fuck on. It took me the first season to get used to seeing that much gore and arses but the main storyline is so far is brilliant and I’m hooked although the sexism makes me watch to dick punch some of the characters though, not gunna to lie. Also, Jaqen H’ghar is hot.
