Firstly, how the hell is August over, wait, scratch that! How the hell is this year nearly over?! Did I finally succumb to sleep deprivation and accidentally slept for 6 months because woah. What the hell is up with time and can it slooooow down just a tad, please! Anyway, following on from last months “Things That Have Made Me Smile” post here is August’s bunch of smiley happiness. I love doing these posts, I pay so little attention to things these days because my brain can retain so little information these days I’m convinced I gave birth to it as well then Lily flew out (she actually did fly out, check out my birth story if you don’t believe me).
Not even sorry if this is sad because cleaning products are my crack and my house has never been cleaner since I found her on Instagram. I’m a bit of a clean freak anyway but pair that with a chronic illness, working at home, home educating El, being a general Mum slave and snack bitch to 2 kids I never had the energy and truth be told I still don’t but she has inspired me so much to up my game and it’s really helping doing smaller jobs every day than one big one every few days. Not only that but everything I have bought that she’s recommended has been amazing and affordable! She keeps it real and I love that!
Technically her first was Eloise’s 6th birthday party but without counting their own or Eloise’s friends’ parties, this was the first one Lily was properly invited to that we have managed to get to. She was so excited, mainly about the balloons, naturally, and she had such a great time and it was just lovely to see her so outgoing and basically the opposite of me growing up. Plus watching her little friendships blossom is the cutest thing ever.
While she is yet to sit through an entire Disney classic, she has found a new love for Minnie and Mickey Mouse, or Mimmi Mouse as she calls her. She says she is “so happy” when shes watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and it’s so cute I could die. I bought her a little Minnie jumper and I’m so excited for her to wear it because she will love it!
It’s come on so much over the last month or so and we can have super mini conversations with her and she will repeat any word we ask now as well as sing parts of songs, mainly Baby Shark, haha. She also says “I so happy” which is probably one of the cutest things I have ever heard.
I started reading This Is Going To Hurt by Adam Kay and it’s hilarious, shocking, sad, amazing all in one and I’ve not even finished it yet. I saw a short reading of it online and I laughed so much I just had to buy it. Definitely, a must read for sure, this would particularly be enjoyable for anyone who works in the NHS I reckon!
I didn’t want to mention this in case I jinxed it but I’ve done so many things this month that are WAY out of my comfort zone and without blowing my own trumpet, I just feel a little bit proud of what I’ve achieved, even though they are probably all little things to most people, but to me they’re massive. I’m loving feeling more confident in myself as well as my mental health. I mean I’m probably at anxiety level 100 above baseline but for me, that’s pretty good going. More of this please world.
I’ve had a good handle full of commisions this month and I can’t help but feel happy that my dream job as a 4-year-old kid is finally starting to come true. If you want to see some of my arty bits then head over to Tulip + Moss on Instagram, I upload new bits every now and then (I really should upload no there more!).
I’m going to be moaning it’s too cold soon but the drop in temperature from 1000 red-hot suns to a temperature cool enough for me to not melt into a puddle of gross on the floor. I’m all up for the autumnal leaves but not the muddy gardens and drizzle. No one likes drizzle. Drizzle is the crust of the weather world. If you like eating manky old crusts we can’t be friends (unless it’s homemade bread, then I’m right there with you).
I’d never had one before (people who know me will know I have a very sheltered life when it comes to food but I’m working on it) but Bens Dad made one and dropped us some off and it was amazing! Probably the best thing I’ve ever put in my mouth. Not even exaggerating.
This is a bittersweet kinda thing but this month Eloise has really been into doing everything herself from wanting to make her own meals (with help obvs) to pouring her own squash and hoovering her room. All things I have done for her for the past 8 years and now all of a sudden she wants to do it all. It’s like the second independence sting in motherhood. The first being when they start feeding themselves, dressing and putting their own shoes on. How many stings are there? I don’t think I can cope, haha.
